A Purrfect Afternoon at Meow Lounge

Earlier this week, Ewa and our client had the pleasure of a little midweek treat at Meow Lounge in Hitchin—a cosy cat café where the coffee is strong, the cake is delicious, and the atmosphere is shared with the fluffiest of hosts.

The afternoon started exactly as you’d imagine: steaming cups of cappuccino, generous slices of cake, and easy conversation filling the air. The resident cats lounged lazily across sofas and windowsills, keeping a watchful eye on the new visitors while pretending, in true feline fashion, that they weren’t watching at all.

Then came the moment that turned coffee and cake into comedy. Just as our client leaned back to relax, one of the four-legged regulars clearly decided she’d found the comfiest spot in the room. With a leap that could rival any ballerina, the cat made a graceful—but slightly mischievous—landing straight onto our client’s lap.

For a heartbeat, everyone held their breath. The cappuccino wobbled dangerously, the cake sat temptingly close, and the cat looked very pleased with itself indeed. Luckily, disaster was avoided (unless you count a little surprise squeal!) and the whole café burst into laughter. Our client’s expression was priceless—somewhere between delighted, bewildered, and crowned as the new “feline throne.”

Of course, at Meow Lounge that’s not just acceptable—it’s the ultimate seal of approval. After all, being chosen by a cat is the highest honour, even if the cat’s real motivation was to get first dibs on the cake!

Beyond the humour of the moment, there’s something truly special about being around animals. Studies show that spending time with pets can lower stress levels, ease anxiety, and boost overall wellbeing. It’s why therapy animals are used in hospitals, schools, and care homes—they have a way of soothing us in ways words often can’t. Cats, in particular, bring a sense of calm with their gentle purring and affectionate (if sometimes unpredictable!) cuddles.

It was one of those small, joyful moments that turned an ordinary coffee break into a memory we’ll be smiling about for a long time.
